Set Your Own Work Schedule by Working From Home
February 19, 2009
If you’ve ever dreamed of working from home and being able to set your own work schedule, you’re in luck. You are alive in the 21st Century and it’s an exciting time for home business entrepreneurs.
The opportunities for making money online have never been greater, and more and more people are turning to the internet as a way to either supplement their income or make working from home a full-time endeavour.
The beauty of working at home is that you have no boss hanging over you to make certain you’re getting your work done. The downside is you have no boss hanging over you to make certain you’re getting your work done. In other words, you have to be self-motivated and you’re going to have to work. Chances are you wouldn’t even be contemplating such a move unless you were highly motivated to start your own home-based business.
Working from home as some wonderful benefits:
—You require little capital to start up your business compared to traditional storefront businesses. All you really need to start is an idea, something to sell, and a PC. There are online opportunities that require an investment of less than a few hundred dollars.
—Tax breaks are great. You need to have an area of your home that is designated as an office, and then you are eligible for many money-saving tax deductions.
—You can set your own hours. People who work from home tend to be highly motivated to begin with. With that motivation comes the ability to get more work done in less time than at a traditional job where there can be more distractions. If you’re a morning person, work before the sun comes up and spend the rest of your day doing your thing. A night owl? Get your work done while the rest of the world is snoozing.
—You can spend more time with your kids. Even if you still put in eight hours a day, when you’re done working, you don’t have to face a long commute—you’re already home. Now you can coach Little League or see your daughter’s school play that you would have missed if you’d been working for someone else.
You do have to know yourself before you take on such an endeavor. One of the things you have to avoid is never leaving work. There is a temptation to sneak into your office or check your business e-mail when you should be doing other things…like listening to your spouse. Make an effort to set your own hours—and stick to them.
You must also be the kind of person who doesn’t get easily distracted by things that need to be done around the house. You must ignore the lawn that needs mowing, the dishwasher that needs filling, the wallpaper in the bathroom that’s starting to peel.
Starting a home business is an exciting prospect and if that’s your dream, go for it. You don’t want to wake up ten years from now, dreading that long commute, and regret not realizing your dream.
