In the last couple of weeks the world has been treated to the unfolding scenes of what has generally been described as the worst financial crisis in over 80 years and what has come to be known as the Global Financial Crisis (GFC). Taking its roots from the sub-prime mortgage crisis of 2007, the crisis has led to the failure of large financial institutions in the United States (Lehman Brothers, Washington Mutual, Wachovia, etc) and has crossed the Atlantic into Europe equally resulting in the near failure of a number of banks there too.
